has facebook become the new online shopping?
No way an app created 17 years ago has undergone the impossible of becoming trendy once again. This app not only stayed on-trend it created a new trend!
A new way to online shopping.
Yes, online shopping is now available on Facebook. I mean we all knew that since 2020 it's a click away to shop from Instagram and Facebook, but did we know how easy it really was. As the book said it's called Facebook Shop, and the way it works consists of customers locating and browsing a shop right from Facebook. Businesses can connect their products right from their websites to make them easy to sell (Charello 2021). Whoever created this idea is genus but like I asked before is this the new way to online shop?
Personally to me, it's a no. This is strictly because I have yet to use Facebook, other than a way to stalk parents' lives. In fact, reading this chapter was the first time I ever heard of a Facebook shop. This way of shopping is obviously easy but I expect people to still look at websites to continue their online shopping addiction. It's easier to look up a specific brand and go straight to the personal website than searching through billions of brands on Facebook. However, it's a perfect way to find new trendy brands that are up and coming.
So maybe it's time to get back on Facebook and interact with the platform properly. It's crazy to think I thought this platform was outdated. I almost feel ignorant or even dumb for not knowing the economic impact Facebook contains. Since I've been on social media I've judged platforms on my own level. For me Instagram was pictures, Snapchat was for texting with pictures, Twitter was for news and funny tweets, and Facebook was for the parents. In the back of my head, I always knew Facebook had a platform for business but I never knew it was directed towards a younger generation of 18 through 30-year-olds. This discovery from the book opened my eyes to almost a whole other media world and I've become intrigued.
Facebook may have created an easy, efficient way to start a business and sell fast, but I personally think it's just another way to buy products. It won't change the world of shopping online. Websites will still undergo the majority of online shopping. However, the media can do some crazy things, so we will have to see what the platform does in the future.
I do think it is interesting how the runners of Facebook are trying to modernize the app. As you said, I always looked at Facebook as a platform for parents and a great way to stalk people if you needed to. But who knows, maybe Facebook is the online shopping outlet of the future, maybe I will log back into my account.

DeleteI had no idea that Facebook was a platform to directly sell products. I had previously thought it was just a way to advertise other websites to sell products. Just like you, I rarely use Facebook, so I had no idea what all changes had been made to the platform over the years. To me it is an old platform for older people, like my parents, but apparently it is not.
