Is Twitter Succesful?
Is Twitter successful or did it just copy updates from Instagram and Facebook?
As we know, Instagram and Facebook are almost interchangeable and are managed by the same owner, but Twitter is not.
Now I am not hating on Twitter but I'm making the general assumption they may have taken ideas from Instagram and Facebook.
For example, we read in the text that in 2020 Twitter released a new feature known as Fleets. I'm not a very active user of Twitter so reading this information is new. Fleets allegedly are just like Instagram stories. They are pictures, videos, or tweets that will remain up for 24 hours then disappear. To me, it sounds like a pretty familiar concept on other platforms. However, just like any platform, Twitter uses hashtags, mentions, likes, and replies. So it may be hard to say Twitter copies when all other platforms follow the same idea.
The next question ahead; is Twitter successful?
Obviously, it is, or we wouldn't talk about it every day. We also wouldn't promote brands and use influencers to connect with target audiences. But before reading this chapter I didn't understand the business aspect of Twitter. I thought Twitter just promoted brands and the same features that were available for personal accounts, the business account had as well. Therefore, I was unease saying Twitter was successful.
There are many business features through the text that opened my eyes to how successful Twitter really is. For example, Twitter provides Twitter Lists that enable businesses to create their own list to promote to certain customers, influencers, and brands (Charello 2020). This platform is also the best place to get in touch with customer service. Over the years Twitter has become the place for customers to rant frustrations and ask for help. Taking that into consideration Twitter made it easy for customers to get in touch with business on a public level and for new customers to see reviews of other brands.
Twitter is beyond successful and I'm unsure why I had the slightest assumption the platform wasn't developed. Even though the app may overlook other media ideas, every other platform does the same. That's why social media is addicting since each platform gives the sense of being the same through the interactions of users.
Alaina, I never really thought about Twitter taking ideas from other social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook. As I read through your blog I noticed that they kind of are with the idea of fleets coming out. Just like Instagram stories. I am a pretty active user on Twitter so I should have recognized this but this blog brought it to light for me!
