Can Businesses do well on YouTube?

As someone who grew up in the YouTube vlogger era, I understand what the app has to offer to teenagers. However, I never understood how a brand can do so well on YouTube.

I always thought YouTube was more for entertainment, influencers to show off, vlogs to watch, music videos and house tours. I grew up falling into rabbit holes watching videos hours on end about random content I can barely remember now. Vloggers were just starting to get big during my early teenage years, that everyone wanted to be one, including myself. Now I won't get into specifics but my best friend and I  created an outstanding YouTube channel, that has yet to go viral. Granted we have grown out of our channel's content, but those days will still be remembered.

Anyway, what I was trying to get to was that when reading Chapter 10, I was curious about how a business can succeed on YouTube. I was shocked at the number of brands that do so well on YouTube and that just promoting a 30-second video can increase your followings on all platforms.

Since YouTube was the first video app and came out during its social media beginnings, this app has over two billion users a month. To think a brand couldn't be successful on this platform was foolish of me. This app has a crazy amount of users that engage in this app every day, including me. I didn't realize I use YouTube every day until now. I watch NBC Nightly News every morning on YouTube, along with an occasional AD Open Doors video.

YouTube has the ability to influence half the world and having brands entertain users on this platform will increase their success. It may take more work than other platforms but even a 30-second video can increase followers in a 24-hour window. Creating content that shows how-to videos and educational videos will create an aesthetic for a brand and portray a positive image behind the brand.

People want content that shows the use of a product and what others think about the product. If a brand can post on YouTube frequently and effectively there is no way they will fail on YouTube. Brands just have to be willing to work for it.

  1. I find it super crazy how many business have actually blew up from youtube. I actually do a lot of shopping from one specific company and i found them threw youtube. Also look at it like this too, people use youtube for vloging, gaming, and entertainment. Once they reach a certain milestone on their channel and have tons of subscribers, they will start promoting their clothing brand, cosmetics, music, and much more. I find Youtube to be a great place for marketing, especially using good content to gain the attention. Great stuff!

  2. Alaina, it is actually truly crazy how big YouTube is. I love this app all the time and it is crazy how successful we can be off of it, if used right. Great blog, I definitely enjoyed reading it!

  3. Alaina, I have also wondered how businesses do so well on YouTube. When I think of businesses using social media to show off their brand I don't normally think of YouTube. It's crazy to think that if the content is popular enough on this platform it can change your business in seconds.

  4. Alaina, I totally agree with you. When first thinking about YouTube, I would not have thought about businesses being on the platform. When I think of YouTube, I think of vloggers and funny videos. However, brands have used vloggers to their advantage by sponsoring them and giving them PR packages to review to get their name out to their viewers. Next thing we know YouTube will fully be for real business, no more funny business.
