Is Pinterest tricky to succeed at?

Honestly, I have no idea if Pinterest is tricky.

I've never used it as a platform to want followers. But after reading how important it is to use Pinterest correctly, I've wanted to see what does and doesn't work.

One of the first strategies for Pinterest is to pin consistently. They say to pin between five and 30 times a day to be successful to the target audience ( Charello 2021). Which sounds like a lifetime project. The more pins the greater chance a company has to meeting an audience's standards. So, when building a company, hiring someone to work primarily on Pinterest may be the right way to proceed depending on the type of product.

Even though the number of posts is important to a viewer, we also read that the quality of the post has a higher success rate. Pinterest is all about looks. Personally, when I scroll through Pinterest, my eye is usually caught by a colorful, high-quality photo. My most looked at posts are food and fashion. When I am scrolling through the app I'm mainly looking for high-quality pictures of different recipes and clothing items.  I've never really noticed this but I click on pins that are lightly edited and almost candid. Having plain, unattractive pins will not interest buyers or users of the app. At least for me, I am not pinning a post that is ugly.

I know everyone has a different style but even businesses do too. When creating a business on Pinterest finding a style and sticking with it will definitely create success through the company. People like consistency, especially when the posts match the viewer's style. No, not everyone will have the same aesthetic as the company but at least staying with the same theme, people will understand what the brand represents.

So, yes succeeding on Pinterest is tricky, but it's doable. Having the right people creating the right content for a company's brand will ultimately make or break the company. Like I said before consistency, quality and style are the three things to remember when posting on Pinterest. In reality, these three things will help you succeed anywhere on social media.

  1. I have never even considered Pinterest as a platform where one could gain followers and use it as a business platform. Of course, I have used Pinterest and the accounts I look at all have many followers and are running their account as a business. I also had no idea that Pinterest was an important platform, I would go there occasionally to look at clothes, drawings or maybe a recipe, it never occurred to me that someone had to put that information there.

  2. That’s a really good point about having a consistent theme. I can see this being more important on Pinterest since it is so heavily based on images, so anything that deviates from that theme will be very obvious. On other platforms where text is more important having more variation is probably more okay.
