MUSIC DAY IN PARIS

Fête de la musiques, the festival of music in France, has to be one of the best days in Paris.

Everyone else simply associates June 21 with being the year's longest day. But in France, it's the one day of the year when everyone goes out to the streets and dances like they don't have work the next day. Every cafe, every bar and every single street in Paris is lit up with singers, instruments, DJs and people dancing and celebrating a day for music. It was a sight that will forever be ingrained in my head. The way people were so happy to be around each other, dancing in the streets of Paris to live music, was the most wholesome experience I had in the city.

When 6 p.m. hit and everyone began leaving work, every Parisian headed to the streets instead of returning to their flats. The music began, and people started laughing, singing and drinking. I personally did not know how big of a deal this day was in Paris until I saw thousands of people covering the streets. My friends and I started at this speakeasy in Le Marais, where we had a few drinks and listened to a live band outside. We headed down the street, passing crowds of people casually dancing with strangers.

On every street, we stopped, listened to a few DJs or singers and danced with strangers. One of our favorite ice cream shops had a DJ outside playing our favorite ABBA remixes and we danced at 8 p.m. like it was 3 a.m. in a club. Imagine the wildest club you've been to, but it's outside and everyone is acting like it is normal. That is how Paris was on June 21. We ended up walking down to the Seine river, where hundreds of people were jumping up and down to this DJ. The sun started to set and glistened in the water while people were drinking and dancing. The image was stunning.

Around 10 p.m., we left the river and headed back to Le Marais to this drag bar. And to our surprise, we couldn't even walk through the streets; they were covered with people. I had to squeeze my 5 foot 1 little self through this crowd of thousands to find the rest of my friends. People were jumping up and down, flashing lights were moving across the buildings, fireworks were going off, confetti was being thrown out of windows and everyone was dancing.

I finally made it to my friends, but we could barely dance because of the crowd. So, were decided to climb onto a window sill and dance on this 4-inch concrete window ledge over looking at the crowd. I've never seen so many people happy to be alive, including myself. I couldn't stop smiling, dancing and overlooking the crowd covered in beautiful people.

We danced till 1 a.m. in the streets of Paris.

One of the most precious days I had in the city and I can tell you one thing, I will remember that day forever.

bisous bisous <3

  1. This experience sounds like once in a lifetime opportunity. The way it sounded like is that everyone was having a big party with each other without a care in the world. I think society today needs to be more like this to come together and get along. Thanks for sharing!
