Palace of Versailles
One of the most gorgeous places to ever exist.
The Chateau of Versailles was built in the years when kings and queens ruled the world. But I visited the mansion for the first time over the summer, and wow. The sight was unimaginable.
You know those stories when people say you had to be there to understand? That's exactly what I mean by the Chateau of Versailles. You walk along a street filled with trees, and to your right and left, you see neighborhoods filled with family homes and cafes. You think you are just in the suburbs of Paris. But all of a sudden, you turn, and there it is, the golden mansion of Versailles.
I went twice over the span of two months, and the first time I was not prepared for what was going to happen. I didn't realize my little legs in a tight white dress would walk over 20,000 steps in a mansion. I was looking forward to getting some cute pictures in one of my favorite dresses around the gorgeous hall of mirrors, but instead, I ended up getting sunburnt in the mile-long gardens. We were halfway through the estate on the second floor, and I looked out to the garden and saw something I was not expecting. I had no idea the Versailles gardens were a maze of around 2,000 acres of land. It was stunning. The green, the fountains, the architecture, statues, I mean the entire grounds were covered. I was just wondering how the hell they keep up with the garden. I can't even keep a mini plant alive.
We walked along the 40-foot tall trees through the garden mazes and took pictures in front of too many green bushes, but don't worry, I finally got my picture in the white dress. Yes, the whole experience took four hours, but I would have been devastated if I didn't get to see the Chateau of Versailles before I died. If that doesn't make you want to go, I don't know what will.
So, like anyone, I had to show this place to everyone that visited me in Paris. When my family arrived, I took my aunts and parents to the chateau and gardens. I thought it was going to be another tiresome walk but gorgeous sight. And I was right, for the most part. Until one of my aunts could not walk anymore; I mean, you should have seen her in her long black dress, hipster sunglasses and tennis shoes, sweaty and tired.
We finally reached the only cafe in the Versailles mansion, Angelina. If you don't know what Angelina is, it's one of the most famous restaurants in Paris. Because my aunt could not bear another second walking, we were about to spend way too much money on a simple lunch; the security guard even got my aunt a chair to sit in while we waited in line. We sat in one of the mansion rooms with top service from the finest chefs. If it weren't for my aunt's incapability to last at Versailles, we wouldn't have eaten some of the best lunch food of my entire life. I kid you not, Angelina's club sandwich was life-changing and the $300 meal ended up being incredible. I mean, eating in one of the most famous chateaus in the world, who could beat that?
Many drinks later... the family survived Versailles. They loved the golden architecture and gardens, especially the experience at Angelina's. Would I go back? Probably not... I mean, come on, I've been twice. I think it's your turn.
bisous bisous <3
