So French
What is it like living in Paris?
Is it like the movies? The books?
Well, you probably think I will say no, but honestly, it's better than a movie. It's a dream. Everywhere you look, it's like looking at a movie screen. I know I've talked about it before, but the fashion, architecture and the people feel like a different world.
Living in France, I caught up on some Parisian characteristics daily. Here are some things I learned to do to be "French."
First off, the French keep to themselves. Parisians walk on the streets like they run the city and don't judge themselves by others. One thing about the French is that they create a world best for them; they aren't publicly insecure. However, because of the stereotypical look, they do make sure to keep a slim body, a late-night social life and a minimal fashion statement.
Second, the French are skinny. And I'm not saying Americans are fat, but the lifestyle in France is different than ours. For example, they don't snack, nor do they really eat breakfast. Everyone says they eat croissants every morning, but Parisians may have one or two a week. Diet culture is not necessarily a thin,g but they don't eat a lot; I feel like Americans overeat and consume too much artificial packaged food. I could write a whole blog on a diet over in Paris because of the extreme change from the US.
Third, relaxing in public is a daily necessity. Everyone goes to the parks either alone or with friends to read, eat, drink and talk. The gardens are constantly being used; it is one of the prettiest sites in Paris besides the architecture.
Fourth, Parisians work to live, not live to work. In other words, the French do what they want before work. Don't get me wrong, they take work seriously, but it's not unusual to take holidays, take drinks during the day, go to the park for two hours during work, go out on the town on a Wednesday night and take a late dinner with coworkers. They enjoy the world before they think about money.
Fifth, and finally, fashion in Pairs is a must. The fashion is minimal, but everyone wears something nice. You won't see a single person look like a slob, even in the grocery. The daily fashion consists of neutral colors and non-staples. However, on a night in the town, the Parisians may spice the outfit up, but they still stay in an appropriate category. Fashion in Paris is part of the culture; it has always been and forever will be.
In all honestly, I wish I grew up "being French." The culture was like made for me. From enjoying life to fashion, the French lifestyle was everything I needed. I felt less anxious, less stressed and more energetic about living. Your mentality changes when you are surrounded by positivity and people who are happy to be alive. And that's exactly what happened to me in Paris.
You make me feel like I can pull off living in France too! Maybe I will try it sometime ;)
