the met gala drop

In America.

2021 Met Gala

I caught myself on my couch watching 3 hours of Vogue's live stream of the Met Gala for nothing.

Maybe not nothing, there were many highlights, but 3 hours of my life for this. Really.

If you haven't heard of the Met Gala it's single-handedly the most iconic night in fashion This event is a fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, that invites the most famous of famous. It's the craziest night for red carpet watchers and the funniest night for the celebrities invited. Each year the museum puts on an event that includes a certain dress code and this year the theme was "In America." Celebrities work hours on hours to focus on a couture design with the greatest designers on the planet. These haute couture designs become the most iconic dresses of the year but like any year there are some ups and downs.

Let's first start with an up. When I think of "In America" I think of the designer Halston who created the American look in the 70s. His work defined America for the longest time and Kaia Gerber debut wearing a replica of one of Halston's dresses designed by Oscar de le Renta. She absolutely killed this look, even though it's not the high light of the night, it's definitely one that followed the dress code.

Second, this may come as a surprise, but these two men absolutely killed it. The history behind these looks struck the internet. Pete Davidson wearing a dress? What? He designed elements to the dress that gave honor to his father who died in 911. Timothee Chalamet wore sweats to the met gala. I didn't agree at first either until the story behind him finding a small designer who developed such creativity behind the fit it, became a piece of art only he could pull off.

I'm sorry Kim, I know people are going to hate me for this, but it's a no. We've seen it. And does it really follow the dress code?
Jaw-dropping, camera-turning, head-looking, timeless piece of art. Kendell Jenner showed up alone wearing one of the most iconic pieces of the night. A Givenchy's masterpiece, serving a sheer dress with crystals covering the body which will never ever go unlooked. This woman can work a dress and not mention gives total respect towards the American theme. This dress gives off a 1950s Audrey Hepburn, California vibe, which is beyond iconic.
I almost forgot and guess Rhianna did too, showing up late minutes after the live stream. The icon arrived stunning as ever with her new man Asap rocky. People may hate but their outfits are serving looks and I will always stand for the queen of the Met Gala.

I can tell you one thing for sure; I will be watching the recap of the Met Gala next year. Too many guests, overwhelming gowns, I almost had to look away a couple times, my eyes were overblown with designs. Some people are just made to watch hours of people talking about dresses, but there were too many wrongs and not enough rights this year. It is still an absolute thrilling year of couture looks and this just makes me even more excited for next year's red carpet!

  1. Firstly I really enjoyed this post as I am consumed by the lives of celebrities, but I have something to say in regards to Kim Kardashians look, and hear me out. Though I agree with you that Kim's look was not necessarily the most visually interesting or on theme, isn't it iconic how she can literally wear a black bed sheet wrapped around her body, but because she is so famous especially her silhouette, people knew exactly who she was?

    1. Devyn thank you so much for your input! I do have to agree with the fact that Kim Kardashian used all black as her silhouette to match the theme because she is apart of American History. However; I wish she would of shown her face since we've been wearing masks for so long :(
