ONU vs. Marietta
GAME DAYYYYY
ONU vs. Marietta
Men's Soccer
10/2/21
Ada, OH @ 7 p.m.
Tough loss from the ONU men's soccer team this past Saturday. We started off strong with a goal in the back of the net in the first five minutes by Levi King. ONU kept Marietta on their toes through the whole first half, but unfortunately, Marietta had a lucky shot that bounced in right by the keeper. In the last three minutes of the half, Marietta tied the game 1-1.
The second half didn't start the way the bears planned on it. Mariette came out stronger than expected leaving another goal on the field to make the score 2-1. However, the bears never play to lose and kept the level of play up to expectations. Marietta began playing scared when the ONU players started to play stronger and physically leaving Marietta, player number 25, hurt with 33 minutes left to play.
After the foul, the bears started to shoot the ball more than ever seen before. This team is very possession-oriented and has skills to pass around teams the whole game but they struggle to get shots off. The game this past Saturday was different and the boys shot the ball like it was the OAC championship game. There are live videos on my Twitter if you wanted to check out some of the quality shots by the ONU men's team (alaina_casey20).
The game became a bit scrappy with twenty minutes left in the game leaving number six on ONU with a yellow card. But this didn't stop them from performing to their quality. Both teams began to fight for the ball, filling the field with an abundance of energy that was exciting to watch.
Unfortunately, when the buzzer sounded the game ended 2-1 with Marietta on top. Even though Marietta took the win, the ONU team definitely deserved it. The skill from our team was unbelievable and the potential for the ONU men's team is incredible. These boys will win many games to come in the OAC and we will be here cheering them on!
Alaina, I liked how you went to support your fellow classmates and bears! It really is about supporting each other that makes this community and this university as a whole feel like family. Even though, the team couldn't pull it out it is still awesome to see fellow teams supporting each other!
